FINALLY - A Completed Project to Share

Since I love the beach so much and live nowhere near it, I wanted to bring a reminder of it into my home.  A few years ago while on vacation I decided to make my main bathroom a vintage beach bath. I started with my inspiration a shower curtain -  and went from there.  The bathroom has been done a good while but I really wanted that beach cottage feeling with a shutter on my window.  I found this set of shutters ages ago and they've been in the shed collecting spiderwebs.  When we had a burst of warm weather here I took advantage of it and started the process of making them my own.  Here they are out of storage.
Just your basic wood louvered shutters.

And after 3 days of work they became this:

PERFECT!  I love anything distressed!  So I made them that way.  It took way more work than I expected as strange as that seems.  First I used 2 cans of spray paint which didn't even give it a good start so I ended up painting it all by brush.  Yep, each of those little louvers.  Twice....

After painting them a pristine white I then sanded the heck out em and Hubs hung them in the beach bath giving it the look I was going for!  You can see a glimpse of the paint color and I'll show more beach bath details in my next post.  But before I go here's a close up of my distress look.
I know you are wondering why go to all the trouble to start out with brown shutters, paint them a perfect white and then sand the heck out of em???  Cause that's my style!

I picked up some storage totes at Hobby Lobby last week for my craft cubby but didn't have time to
put them where they belong.  In no time at all Otis had nose trouble and just had to see what was new.  He loves the sound of the plastic bags and it looked like a cave inside! Oh delight he thought!

I couldn't imagine what I heard when the bag was rustling.  Upon further investigation this is what I found.
Just Otis being his nosy self!

These 3 know the best place to hang out - in front of the fire on a cold night!  In the front is Otis, middle is Fester and the back sitting up is L.C. which stands for Lucky Cat.

A little beach love

Anyone who knows me very well knows I love the beach!

Or anything in the sun for that matter.  My summer afternoons are spent being lazy in our pool after working in the gardens all morning.  Like this...

With all the snow, ice and cold weather we've had I've really been thinking alot about this...

This was the resort we went to last year in Riviera Maya, Mexico.  We perched here everyday right at this swim-up pool bar.
And this is the resort we went to the year before...
I tend to look at these photos alot on these cold winter days waiting for spring and knowing the next beach vacation is right around the corner.  I can see it now...
This is the next stop on our beach vacation bucket list... knowing it's coming makes winter just a little more tolerable.  Our reservations have been made!
